Fishing licenses are not needed to participate and all programs are Catch & Release at Carpenter's Brook. Please note: Registration for all 2013 fishing programs begins Monday, March 4.

Go Fish! Public Fishing

Saturdays, April 13 - May 25, 2013
9:30 - 11:30am
$5 per person

This popular program offers fishing for families, small groups and individuals. Volunteers will be on site to help beginners. This program accomodates a maximum of 30 per session.

Fish 'n Party

Sundays, May 12 - October 6, 2013
1 - 5pm (shelter is available for use beginning at 10am)
$75 per hour or $200 for the day
A wonderful party option, use of Brookside Shelter and exclusive time at the fishing pond

Must bring own equipment & bait; no treble hooks or minnows

Time Out to Fish

Monday - Friday, May 28 - July 19, 2013 (except July 4)
10:00am - 12:00pm or 1:00 - 3:00pm
$3 per person
This long running program offers school groups serving children with special needs as well as other small groups, senior citizens, and individuals with special needs the opportunity to fish for rainbow trout. Groups must consist of a minimum of 5/ maximum of 20. This program is sponsored by Friends of Carpenter's Brook Fish Hatchery.

  • May 28 - June 14 - All Sessions - Open to school groups serving children with special needs only
  • June 17 - July 19 - All Sessions except - Tuesday AM & Thursday PM - Open to other groups
  • June 17 - July 19 - Tuesday AM & Thursday PM - Reserved for individual senior citizens and persons with special needs

Family Fishing Day

Saturday, June 1, 2013
9:30am - 1:30pm
Free
Kids and adults interested in learning the basics of freshwater fishing will enjoy a session of instruction provided by DEC staff, Carpenter's Brook staff and volunteers from the Friends of Carpenter's Brook. The session will consist of five 15 minute breakout stations with instruction:

  • Common fishing tackle and techniques
  • Fish Identification and biology
  • Conservation and ethics
  • Aquatic ecology
  • Fish preparation and cooking


Participants will have the chance to practice casting and fish during the second half of the session. Bait, tackle, rod and reels, and instructional materials will be provided. Bring a rod if you have one.

Grandparent/Grandchild Fishing Days

Monday - Friday, July 22 - August 9, 2013
9:30 - 11:30am or 1:30 - 3:30pm
$3 per child; adults free (3 children per adult allowed)
This special activity offers a great opportunity for grandparents to enjoy quality time with their grandchildren, catch lunker trout and create memories for a lifetime.
