A passive setting and great views are the signature features of Onondaga County's newest leisure facility, Otisco Lake Park, which was dedicated in 2000.The 3 acre site includes shoreline commemorative benches, majestic evergreens, and hundreds of feet of great fishing access. The prime Otisco Lake Park property is a gift to Onondaga County from the estate of the late Waldemar F. and Marjory G. Hirsch, who inherited the land from Hirsch's mother and lived on the site in a one story house. The beautiful location became "their heaven on earth." "They wanted a lot of people to enjoy it, have a picnic, listen to the birds, enjoy the lake" reflected Hirsch's niece, Carlotta Petrie, of Phoenix.
Petrie has also donated several thousands of dollars to assist with the renovation and maintenance of the property, while the Otisco Lake Rod and Gun Club has sponsored two of the commemorative benches which grace the shoreline. An area Eagle Scout, Bill Hawley, assisted with clearing shrub growth in several areas of the vest pocket park.
Otisco Lake Park is a carry-in, carry-out facility with a five-car parking area. Swimming is not allowed.
Opened in 2022 The Otisco Shores Conservation Area is an extensive area located at the southern end of Otisco Lake on Otisco Valley Road in the Town of Otisco. The area is open to the public with shoreline access, walking trails, a spot to fish and a small parking area. The land for the park was purchased via a partnership with the Finger Lakes Land Trust and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The goal of the design was to keep this stretch of Otisco Shores with a minimal footprint hich allows visitors to enjoy a natural setting. |
