
County Parks Offering Lifeguard Certification Course

All class sessions are mandatory to receive certification.
All course participants must be at least 15 years of age prior to March 7, 2023 and must pass the pre-screening swimming skills evaluation, which will require students to complete a 550 meter swim (may use front crawl or breathstroke), a 2-minute water tread without use of hands, and additional timed skills evaluation.
The cost of the course is $75.00 per student. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be certified in First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding.

County Parks Offering Lifeguard Certification Course

Onondaga County Parks is offering an American Red Cross lifeguard training and certification course beginning with a pre-screening skills evaluation on Saturday, February 16 at Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School. Upon successful completion of the evaluation, certification class will begin.
The course is scheduled for the following dates:
Saturday, February 16 – 9am – 3pm – Pre-Screen Evaluation and Start of Class
Monday, February 18 – 8am – 2pm – CPR/AED Training at County Parks Main Office in Liverpool
Tuesday, February 19 – Friday, February 22 – 9am – 3pm – Pool and Classroom
Saturday, February, 23 – 10am – 12pm – Finish Class and Written exam, 12pm – 3:00pm – Skills and Swim Test

Pre-registration is required. The cost of the course $275.00 per student; checks are payable to “Onondaga County Parks”, and can be mailed to Oneida Shores Park, 9248 McKinley Ridge Road, Brewerton, NY 13029. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be certified in First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding.
Lifeguard certified individuals have a great opportunity for summer employment at either County Parks or other local pools and waterfront facilities in the area. Throughout the summer, Onondaga County Parks operates two beach facilities located at Jamesville Beach Park in Jamesville and Oneida Shores Park in Brewerton. Both beaches are open from Memorial Day through the end of August. Onondaga County Parks will host a Lifeguard Evaluation on Saturday, February 23 for all certified guards interested in seeking summer employment beginning at 12pm at Jamesville-Dewitt Middle School pool .
