County Parks Wins Multiple Regional Awards

Onondaga County Parks took home multiple honors at the 2024 Central New York Recreation and Parks Society (CNYRPS) Awards Luncheon held Friday at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse. The annual ceremony recognizes the achievements and efforts in the field of parks and recreation in Central New York. A total of 15 awards were given including the following county parks team members and partners: 

  • Leiko Kiggins, Director of Recreation - David M. Guokas Memorial Award - For significant contributions to the advancement of the leisure field and active participation in community service. 
  • Brian Kelley, Commissioner - Outstanding Service - An individual who has made outstanding contributions to enrich lives of individuals in neighborhoods, communities or the State of New York, through recreation, parks and conservation. 
  • Marissa Lathrop, Naturalist, Beaver Lake Nature Center - Program Leader Award - An individual who displays outstanding leadership qualities in the development and/or execution of a Parks and Recreation program or event. Shows innovation and an enthusiastic approach in running consistently successful on-going programs or events.
  • Stephanie Reeves, Gardener, Beaver Lake Nature Center - Environmental Leadership Award - Recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding effort during the last one to five years to sustain and improve the environment and/or reduce the environmental impact made by the agency. 
  • Cindy Meili, Volunteer - Distinguished Citizen Award - Recognizes a citizen, community park board member or volunteer who has demonstrated exceptional efforts towards enhancing and supporting parks and recreation in their community and/or New York.
  • Robin Augello, Public Information Specialist - Media Award - For ontributions to the promotion and acceptance of recreation and leisure through a job in the field of communications, including radio, TV, newspapers, and magazines.
  • Pickleball Complex - Exceptional Facility Design - Given to a park facility that opened during the prior calendar year and exhibits creative/exceptional design qualities.
  • Fishstock - Special Event Award - Partnership with Fayetteville Recreation Commission; Village of Manlius Parks & Recreation; Village of Minoa; Town of Manlius Recreation and New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation.

Established in 1969, the Central New York Recreation & Parks Society is the independent association formed torepresent Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Tioga, and Tompkins counties as a regional partner in New York State Recreation and Parks Society (NYSRPS). Membership is made up of a diverse group of public and private sector professionals, students, municipal board or commission members and commercial vendors. The organizatio promotes and supports Park and Recreation professionals and the field of eisure services through networking, advocacy and professional development.
