Final Week of the Lights on the Lake Season to Benefit Local Charities

The final week of Wegmans Lights on the Lake will benefit local non-profits within our community, courtesy of Bank of America.  From Monday, January 9th to Friday, January 13th, the Lights on the Lake show will remain open from 5-10pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the spectacular lights while helping out local non-profits from our community at the same time.  Vehicle passes will be sold at a discounted price of $5, with all proceeds going to various charities within the community.

 The extended nights will benefit the following charities:

 Monday 1/9: Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter -Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter, located in Jamesville, NY, opened its doors in October of 2015. since then, over 500 dogs have been adopted and over 140 inmates have gone through their program. for more information or to donate visit www.JamesvilleSecondChance.com.

Tuesday 1/10: Alzheimer’s Associatoin- The Alzheimer’s Association leads the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia - by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.  The Alzheimer’s Association is leading the voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. The Central New York Chapter was founded in 1982 providing services to Syracuse, Watertown, Utica, Binghamton, Ithaca, and the surrounding communities.  The Alzheimer’s Association helpline (800.272.3900) is available 24/7 for people to speak to a highly trained and knowledgeable staff who can help with decision-making support, crisis assistance, and education on issues that families face every day, such as understanding memory loss.  Funds raised from Wegmans Lights on the Lake Charity Giveback Nights will be used to support access to their 24/7 helpline to families effected by Alzheimer’s disease in Central New York.

 Wednesday 1/11: Central Square Essentials for Success Inc.- Central Square Essentials for Success, Inc. provides weekend meals for food insecure students registered in the Central Square School District.  Formed in 2021, CSES provides students registered in the program with two breakfasts, two lunches, and two snacks every weekend.  Over long holiday breaks, lunch and snack is provided for each day the students are not in school.  In the 2021-2022 school year, CSES provided food for over 100 students in grades Pre-K through 12.  As of October 2022, over 50 students have been provided food for the 2022-2023 school year, with this number increasing daily.  Each school building in the Central Square School District also has an emergency food bin for any family in dire need of food.  This bin provides essentials until the family is able to obtain more help from a local food bank or public assistance.  Funds raised from the Wegmans Lights on the Lake Charity Giveback Nights will go directly to continuing CSES’s mission to provide weekend meals for every child with food insecurity in their school district.

 Thursday 1/12: Families First- Families FIRST (Families, Inclusion, Respect, Support, Therapy) is a non-profit group that provides support for families facing a variety of challenges, including those with Autism or other developmental disabilities in the CNY area. Families FIRST provides parent education, family support, social events, behavior services, and crisis intervention.  They work closely with families to meet their individual needs.  Funds received from Wegmans Lights on the Lake Charity Giveback Nights will be used to purchase items for families that are not typically covered by grant funds, including but not limited to: iPads, speech devices, adaptive seating, and home safety modifications.

 Friday 1/13: SageUpstate- SageUpstate is currently celebrating 25 years serving older folks in Central New York.  Sage offers programs to counter the isolation felt by older LGBT people, who are less likely to have children to rely on for support and more likely to live alone.  SageUpstate provides cultural competency training for providers on ways to create a supportive environment for LGBT seniors.  Their offices are located in the CNY Philanthropy Center where many programs take place in person and on Zoom.  They currently have satellite programs in two other surrounding counties.  Sage holds monthly Lunch & Learns on topics such as Medicare choices, Home Energy Assistance Program, and COVID vaccinations, to name a few.  Funds received from the Wegmans Lights on the Lake Charity Giveback Nights will be used to provide an honorarium for guest speakers for the Lunch & Learn program, in addition to lunch for their participants.
